Doubting your SaaS

Having doubt about your new SaaS app or any business/idea for that matter is part of the course of being an entrepreneur, artist, creator, designer, ______ fill in the blank.

Hard liners say “never doubt yourself” as it will only lead to failure. I’m not sure we should subscribe to that. The saying “you are if you say you are” rings true to be sure but it’s not that black and white. Doubt is good, it can cause you to reassess what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. TV shows such as X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent showcase talent from across the country and even the wider world lately. But we see people on these shows that obviously lack the talent required to progress, if you want to be a singer but can’t sing to save your life then there is a huge barrier to moving forward. The thinking here is often barriers are there to be broken and as entrepreneurs we should subscribe to this idea, but wanting to be the worlds greatest singer and having no singing ability is like founding a commercial version of NASA with no money and so no spaceship. It’s simply impossible (bar investment of course!).

You love music and singing makes you happy. That’s great, the alternative then; how about you write great music for others and spread your talent and passion this way. Maybe you could design album covers that will be remembered forever.

But space is the final frontier you say. Yes that maybe true, write to Richard Branson and share your ideas, or how about you look in to the projects springing up in the UK to send Raspberry pi’s to space like http://www.projectblacksky.com/. This is a case in point of choosing yourself first and not waiting around to be picked.
