Grow or strengthen?

When a business reaches a certain scale, say when its actually taking a profit after paying all dues including the founders salary it can reach a sort of plateau. The ever striving business is now in profit and money is no longer an issue to its ongoing survival, well at least in the short term.

In this scenario we are finally able to relax and striving becomes something of the past. If we do continue to strive we now face the problem of striving too far and creating too much opportunity that we are unable to handle it operationally. Our standards start to drop and then so do our customers. However if we stand still and play it safe we stagnate and if we are not growing then we are going nowhere. It’s a difficult stage for a business and a founder/MD or CEO. There are no catch all answers as every business is different but the right direction is just a decision away.
