Think outside the box

We often hear the term “think outside the box”, but how do we actually do this. The term suggests that we are in the box and need to think outside of it. Perhaps looking at this a little differently could help.

If we are outside the box then we are alone and have nothing to lean on, we cannot see the inner world so our thinking might be lofty. Inside the box we are crowded, closed in and only have the inside view and can be swayed by those around us. But what if we sit on the edge of the box. Here we can view the inside, get to understand the inner workings whilst having the viewpoint of an outsider and so have fresh perspective. Sitting on the edge of the box lets us stay connected while allowing the freedom to think clearly. The edge is where we can be truly creative.
